Myanmar to Adopt Metric System

The Metric System or the International System of Units (SI System) is looking to be adopted by Myanmar as the official system of measurement of country as opposed to the current system of Kilogram, FPS (foot-pound-second) and CGS (centimeter-gram-second) Systems for measuring goods.

In the agricultural sector where products such as rice, beans and maize, are being exported, it would be beneficial to streamline the measurement units according to international standards.

Myanmar government officials are also concerned with the wastage of time, money and resources when weights have to be re-measured and goods have to be re-packaged; during international trading with countries who do not accept certain measurements.
