Myanmar Government has received over US $ 1 billion in taxes from two telecom operators providing services in the country. These telecom operators are Ooredoo and Telenor and they are both foreign companies. Out of the total tax payment received Ooredoo had so far paid US $ 757.5 million while Telenor has paid US $ 375 million. The total tax amount owed by Ooredoo so far is US $ 1.010 billion and for Telenor the total tax amount due for this fiscal year is US $ 500 million. Both these companies were granted licences to operate in Myanmar in February 2014 and their licenses are valid for a period of 15 years. There is another telecom company also operating in the country named Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT). This is a Government owned company and does not have to pay any tax.
