President of the Republic of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee extended an invitation to visit India to President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Mr. Htin Kyaw which was readily accepted. Mr. Kyaw visited India from 27-30 August, 2016 and he was also accompanied by his wife Mrs. Daw Su Su Lwin as well as other senior ministers of Myanmar including Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, the Union Minister for Transportation and Communication, the Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Manpower, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and other senior officials. During this visit four important Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were signed between the two countries. The details of the MOUs are as follows:
- MoU on Cooperation in the construction of 69 Bridges including AP Approach Roads in the Tamu-Kyigone-Kalewa Road Section of the Trilateral Highway in Myanmar. This was signed on the Indian side by India’s Foreign Secretary and on Myanmar’s side by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Construction.
- MoU on Cooperation in the construction / upgradation of the Kalewa – Yagyi Road Section was signed by India’s Foreign Secretary and Myanmar’s Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Construction.
- MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Renewable Energy was signed by India’s Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Myanmar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
- MoU on Cooperation in the field of Traditional Systems of Medicine was signed by India’s Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH and Myanmar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
