Mr. Thein Sein, Myanmar’s ex-president, has joined monkhood just a few days after leaving office. His ordination took place on April 4, 2016 as he adopted a saffron robe and shaved his head to adopt this new way of life. Me. Sein has lived an extraordinary life and played various roles from being an army man to a politician, to a leader of his country, and now he has renounced the worldly pleasures and dedicated himself towards higher spiritual pursuits. He has always excelled in each and every role he has took on and numerous well-wishers throughout Myanmar and the rest of the world that he finds greatest success and peace in his new endeavour as well.
Mr. Thein Sein is going to spend five days at the Dhamma Dipati Monastery located in a scenic hill town called Pyin Oo Lwin. His decision to become a monk was encouraged by Mr. Sitagu who is Myanmar’s most respected monk. Adopting monkhood for a temporary period of time is quite a common practice in Myanmar. Most people choose to spend some time in a monastery and adopt a religious way of life at least once in childhood and then again for the second time during their adult life.
