International mobile phone operator Digicel has announced that it will join with other companies to supply and build mobile phone masts in Myanmar. Digicel, which is controlled by businessman Denis O’Brien, said it will join forces with YSH Finance and Ooredoo Myanmar to build the masts through a consortium called Digicel Asian Holdings.
Earlier this year Digicel was part of a consortium that lost out in a competition to win a mobile phone licence in the country which was once known as Burma.
“We are delighted to work with Ooredoo to help develop a high quality telecommunications network across the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, contribute to the growth of the Myanmar economy and benefit Myanmar citizens across all of the country’s States, Regions and Union territories,” Mr O’Brien said in a statement today.
