CARLSBERG OPENS BREWERY IN BAGO

Carlsberg has begun operations in Myanmar, by opening its first brewery in Bago, 80 kilometres north-east of Yangon.

The Danish brewer has announced that it will brew three beers at the US$ 75 million factory – its flagship brand, Carlsberg, Tuborg and Yoma Beer, which is specifically for the Myanmar market and will be made using rice from Bago Region, according to reports.

Carlsberg has agreed a joint-venture agreement with local company Myanmar Golden Star (MGS), and will hold a 51 percent stake in Myanmar Carlsberg Co Ltd. If reports are correct then the factory
will only produce beer for the Myanmar market as beer consumption remains low in the country.
