CANADA AND MYANMAR SIGN A 4 POINT COOPERATION AGREEMENT

CANADIAN FOREIGN MINISTER MR. STÉPHANE DIONAn agreement was reached between Myanmar and Canada in April this year. This agreement was the result of talks between Myanmar’s President Mr. Htin Kyaw and Canadian Foreign Minister Mr. Stéphane Dion. The meeting took place in Nay Pyi Taw and four points of cooperation were agreed upon between the two countries. These four points include Canada helping Myanmar in its national reconciliation efforts, helping to ensure availability of enough safe under to counter the effects, making for investment, and resumption of Canadian scholarship for the youth of Myanmar. Mr. Dion also committed to provide US $ 8 million to Myanmar for use in health, education and social sectors. He also met Myanmar’s Foreign Minister and State Counsellor Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi and additionally pledged to give Myanmar US $ 33.5 million in order to assist Myanmar’s new Government to help ensure a federal union system, efficient administration and increase women’s participation in various spheres.
